Gem Music Upper Case

Music Upper
This English music lay is that of R.H.Stevens & Co., and is taken from a specimen sheet of theirs held at St Bride's Library (in 2006). The full fount also uses an Outer case and a Lower case. The fount is larger than, for example, the Gem type of Miller & Richard, whose lay was shown by Southward in Modern Printing, 1898 through to 1954, which occupies only an Upper and Lower (of different construction to the Stevens ones). Stevens was in business from 1907, and later became Stevens, Shanks & Sons.
