THE EARLY YEARS OF

GRIFFEN MILL

1986 - 1998

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Griffen Mill has an unique reputation for the production of specialist papers. With the Mill's ability to match a wide range of early papers for such diverse items as a reproduction 16th century print to an 18th century wallpaper, or for conservation of archives or rare incunabula, the papers are much sought after by printers, binders and conservators.

The text, written by Chris Laver-Gibbs, recounts the history of the Mill from its early beginnings. She describes some of the technical problems and how they were solved in producing these specialist custom sheets, giving an unique insight to the workings of a hand paper mill at the end of the 20th century.

The text is printed on a Griffen Mill paper made specially for this book, and in addition twelve samples of other different Mill papers are included, some being full-page. The book is bound in quarter cloth with printed Griffen Mill Blue Ledger paper covered boards and Genet endpapers. The de-luxe copies are in a slip case with special making endpapers and are bound in quarter leather.
