Monotype Unit Arrangement sheets

The sheets listed below represent a very small selection of the many produced by the Monotype Corporation in the UK. They are in the collection held by the Alembic Press, but some are very worn or poorly copied. For a given typeface, the sheet shows the unit widths and physical widths of the different point sizes of the characters in the fount. They are particularly useful when using a super caster, as composition matrices themselves do not show the unit or the width (display sizes have the width shown on the side of the matrix). The table of Unit Arrangements issued by the Monotype Corporation shows unit widths, but not physical widths, and does not show values for characters such as $,[(*?‡.
