Empty Improved New York Job Case

This U.S. case matches the Improved New York Job Case shown by American Type Founders, Pacific Coast Blue Book: Specimens of Type, Printing Machinery, Printing Material (1896) and American Line Type Book (1906), and Barnhardt Bros & Spindler, Book of Type Specimens No.9 (1907), Hamilton Manufacturing Company, Modern Cabinets, Furniture and Materials for Printers, Catalog 14 (c.1907), American Typefounders Co Catalogue (1923), and the New York Job in Long, Wood Type & Printing Collectibles (1980) illustrated from an old Hamilton Industries catalog. Though these all show the case with 1 row of small boxes and 4 rows of large boxes in the upper case bay (on the right), Hamilton also produced an Improved New York Job with one small, three large and one small row. Also, in the bottom row, the ; box is sometimes smaller than the . box underneath it, although the x and q boxes remain the same size.

The type lay is the Improved New York of ATF 1896 or the Improved New York Job of ATF 1906. There is a Two Third version of the case, which omits the right hand bay. Also, if the top two rows (for small caps and ligatures) are omitted and the 5 rows of caps boxes reduced in size, the case is the same as Hamilton's California Job case.
