This U.S. case is constructed on the plan by T.F.Adams in his Typographia of 1844. Note that the boxes in the bottom row are divided in a different way from other lower cases, with boxes for spacing moved adjacent to the normal spacing box. Subsequent U.S. lower cases eg MacKellar of 1870, did not adopt this style.
The actual type lay is Adams and the companion upper lay is Adams Upper.
