This U.S. typecase lay is the Triple Case shown by American Type Founders, American Line Type Book, 1906 and Barnhardt Bros & Spindler, Book of Type Specimens No.9, 1907, and Hamilton Manufacturing Company, Modern Cabinets, Furniture and Materials for Printers, Catalog 14, c.1907, and the Heading Case shown by Gujarati Type Foundry, Type Book, 1928. The case construction matches the Triple Case of Harpel, Typograph or Book of Specimens, 1870 and the Treble Case in Miller & Richard's Price List, 1873 and the Triple of MacKellar, The American Printer, 15th edition 1885, etc., with all the rows of boxes the same size. A later version of the case has the A, H and P rows of boxes larger than the other rows, as shown by Hamilton 1922 etc., although the actual lay remains the same.
