This U.S. typecase configuration is shown by American Type Founders: Specimen of Wood Type and Catalogue of Printers Wood Goods and Materials, 1893. It is effectively the same as the normal Lower case, but two thirds the width, and with the boxes for : ; . , merged into one box.
