This typecase configuration matches that of Southward, Practical Printing 4th edition 1892. It is almost the same as that of Barnhart Bros & Spindler (1890s), and American Type Founders (1893 and 1895), except that they also divide the o box. Note that the left hand box of the divided h box is narrower than the right hand box. An earlier version for German is shown by MacKellar in 1870 and Southward in 1882, without this subdivision, and a later version is shown by Lockwood in 1894, with the subdivision horizontal rather than vertical, and with a wide box for w (under 0 9).
