This U.S. typecase construction is shown by American Type Founders, American Line Type Book (1906), Hamilton Manufacturing Company, Modern Cabinets, Furniture and Materials for Printers Catalog 14, c.1907 and Barnhardt Brothers & Spindler, Book of Type Specimens No.9, 1907. Hamilton stated that it was most useful in tabular and other intricate work. It is intended to sit on the ends of Lower cases in the space between two Lowers (usually occupied by a galley board). Lugs on the back hold the case from slipping off at the front, and it has a front lip allowing other small cases to be put on top. The case size is 7⅜ by 15⅛ inches, and the empty case lay is Carpenter.
