This Scottish typecase layout is that used by the Alembic Press since 1974 in their Improved Double cases, which unfortunately have no manufacturer or supplier's name on them. The lay does not have U, J and ligatures in the traditional boxes, and also puts mid spaces where thick spaces normally go, as the Press tends to word space with mids, and thus needs a large space box for these.
The empty configuration is Improved Double. The 'Improvement' is in the five rows of boxes in the upper case (right hand) bay, whereas the traditional case had seven rows. Fewer rows allows the top four rows to have larger boxes, thus giving more room for the capitals.
