This case lay is shown by Gallavrini: Tipocomposizione (1966) as part of a course of instruction published by Associazione Culturale Progresso Grafico, Torino. The corresponding empty case would be Francese. However, the actual empty case shown by Gallavrini is the Romano, which has a central, rather than right offset, partition in the upper case. Since that conforms to the case also shown by Enciclopedia Italiana, it is not clear whether this offset is a stylistic device, or reflects an actual case. Apart from this offset, Gallavrini's lay fits either of his cases. Note that ¦ represents a single dagger and ¦¦ a cross.

Note that there are effectively four rows of fourteen boxes in the upper case. Gallavrini shows two other cases, Veneto with four rows of sixteen boxes, and Napoletano with four rows of fifteen boxes, both with a central partition, and two others, Siciliano with four rows of fifteen, and Rossi with four rows of nineteen boxes, both with an off-centre partition.
